There are several terms of payments.
Letter of Credit
So called L/C have been the most popular way and many companies used this method for payment. When the buyer wish to pay to Japanese seller, the buyer applies to their bank to send L/C to the seller through the bank in Japan.
This is the most safety way to pay, however it takes time.
Many companies preffer to transfer the fund through bank, instead of taking effort to open L/C.
